Getting closer…..

September 06, 2009 By: Lance Category: Uncategorized

Just an update on what is going on.  It has been busy and even I have to admit I have really let the posts slide these last 6 weeks.  My DVR is full as well with neglected favorite shows.  Well school starting has not helped but for the most part I have to blame it on the Rangers.  As soon as everything is crossed of the “must do” list in order to maintain status in the “good parent” category, it’s Ranger time.  (All you facebooking moms can relate to that I’m sure but would never admit it.)  Anyway it is  rare the Texas Rangers are still alive at this time of the year and I really enjoy watching them trying to sneak into the playoffs.  I do DVR the games and manage to squeeze them in usually as soon as everyone is in bed but that leaves little time for the old Bloggy McBlog Blog.  Now down to the running stuff….

The Crossroads Half-Marathon is coming up on the Oct 3 and I’m anxious to see how that one is going to go.  I feel after the distances I have been training at, I should be able to handle it without major issue.  I just need to really make sure I don’t get out there and act like an idiot and do something stupid.  I should be fine but when you are dealing with the tools upstairs I have, nothing is easy.  Since the last post, I did run a 16 miler last week and a 12 miler yesterday.  Between those two runs I had some allergy issues that really knocked me down for a bit.  I was scheduled to run 3 miles the next day after the 16, but either the 16 miles really took its toll on me or I was really just flat out sick.  Either way, I didn’t do the 3 mile recovery run the next day following the 16.  I did get in 5 miles on Tues and Wed of last week but then could only do 3.5 of the scheduled 5 (treadmill out of town) last Thursday.  I had had enough and when I got back to Midland I went to the Doc for some repairs.  Allergy shots and 3 prescriptions later and I am on the mend.  I didn’t have any trouble with the 12 yesterday (9:22 pace) and just finished my 3 mile recovery run for today.  Everything seems to be on schedule.  Tommy and Bruce have each run longer runs than me so far but I think we are all where we need to be.

Coming up:  I have an 18 mile run Sat morning and then a golf tournament that afternoon in Kermit, TX with the second round to follow on Sun.  Don’t know how that’s going to go over.  I am scared for my teammates like a lead balloon.  The following weekend I am scheduled to run 12 and go to the Tech – Texas game in Austin on business (kind of).   If I had my choice on that one, I would skip it and stay home.   Then the next weekend is a 20 mile run (max miles I will run before the marathon) followed by the half-marathon on Oct 3rd.  If I can make it through that stretch, I will be one month away from NYC.

We did attend the Midland Rockhound minor league games this weekend and got some pics of Jett with the Church’s Chicken.  They hit it off until I told him we much prefered Popeye’s.  Lori, Carter and myself are not in the picture.  I just asked Jett if he wanted to sit by him and he went down about three rows and climbed in the seat.

T Wood (Dad) update.  Since the last post my dad had a stent put in and is doing fine.  He even said he wanted to get the clubs out.  Might have to take the family out today for a round………………

Hope you are well recovered from your allergies. Busy here preparing for the crossroads. Longest walk is an 8 miler (not enough juice on a Garmin to keep up with the 27 hours it takes to walk). Tomorrow is a 6, next week is a 9 miler. As far as the event goes, I’m petrified of getting lost on the course, involuntary body responses (including crying) or being the ‘puka’. Hahaha. See you around soon as we are planning to visit the same time as Ash. Great picture of Jett. I think he looks a lot like Brenner in this pic. Tommy just thinks Brenner looks a lot like you.
